So no cars went by for church this morning and many places are closed. No one is saying how the roads are so I am not sure many people are out and about. For now We are delaying opening until 1 pm.
Reason 376-Why I will continue to make the mortgage but will never be able to retire. I checked the weather forecast about 6 times this morning and it is different every time. However it continues to call for rain between 4 and 5 o'clock until 8 pm at temperatures of 33 or so...which means ice. Right or wrong I have decided to close at 4 today. I may lose a dollar but at least I won't lose any staff or hopefully loyal customers. If it just rains I will feel like an idiot but if it ices and I don't close I will feel I risked good people for no reason. The Snow-crab legs will keep in the freezer and we will do them another day .This of course means I need to see all of you eating here next week Lol. Please share so no one makes a wasted trip and people can come get 'supplies' this afternoon.
And so begins the hype of super winter storms. Sometime tomorrow morning will be decision making time here at the Lion. I always try to err on the side caution, but it also seems that every time we expect a snow flake it is predicted to be a major event.Does everyone have their milk and bread?... And will you be planning to hunker down with your family?

It is that time of year when I start to think about tweaking the menu. I do a bit of this by trying new specials and seeing if they are menu worthy. Last night I was told that the smoked salmon dip that I am running at the moment needs to be a permanent addition. I have a few ideas and a couple questions ( and a short explanation). When we opened we tried to be respectful of the neighbors and tried to develop a menu that was all our own. Hoping that we would be able to survive on our own merits. Due to your kindness we have managed to survive our first three years. Now some of our neighbors have changed and as nice as it is to welcome Susan (over at the Fat Squirrel) to the neighborhood it doesn't make me miss the old friends any less. Talking that over the other day I realized I truly miss Lamonica's Chef Salads, my sister misses that pepperoncini on her salad and I know Dave (sometimes Santa) misses Turrilo's antipasto salad. Not sure we can or should try to fill any of theses gaps. However with thoughts of playing with the menu floating in my head, I am thinking of adding a few things and making minor changes. I am also wondering what you folks might be wanting. So keeping in mind that we can't be everything to everyone and that some things are dictated by our space I am open to some suggestions... Lastly Do you remember a month or so ago when there was a big to do about single use straws? Along that line I am not a fan of the single use dressing cups. I am not sure I can keep enough ramekins in stock to make a complete switch to little washable side cups(they tend to get thrown away by accident)...so I am wondering,Is dressing on the side really that big of a deal? if your salad isn't drowning do you really care if we save a cup and put the dressing on it? Could we make dressing on the side a thing you need to request? just a thought. Thank you for any input you may have. Have a great day.
